The week that was.

  • In the week that the Spanish Armada ruled Anabel Medina Garrigus and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez won tournaments in Plaermo and Bad Gastein respectively. But it was MJMS who took out the ridiculous trophy award.
  • Serena Williams beat Martina Hinigis 5-3 in WTT. And The following night Martina Hingis Beat Serena Williams in WTT 5-3. Tennis Forum went comeback crazy when this story leaked. Hingis is playing Pro-Am not the actual tournament.
  • Elena Dementieva got hitched on the weekend. I now await babies. Alla Kudryavtseva leaked photos and put her bet on Maria Kirilenko and Igor Andreev to be the next Russian sport couple to walk down the aisle despite Vera (not Zvonerava) catching to bouquet.
  • The WTA welcomed Baku, Baku can already boast the third lowest main draw cut off rank (260, narrowly going down too Tashkent 2006 (262) and Bogota 2003 (263).
  • Jarka and Gools played some sweet tennis on a huge mountain, sadly they couldn't put that into their singles matches and Bad Gastein. And they lost the doubles final together to.
  • Aga reminded us not to sext text and drive. Good ad, good message, why Aga?
  • After a long discussion it is know known Serena will be using  her Protected Ranking to enter tournaments.
  • A blast from the past was bought back to life, once again kudos to Tennis Forum.
  • And finally YouTube user TopTenTennisNetwork bought us the magic of Petra Kvitova, in case you wanted more proof, this *is* 222 reasons why.
And that was my view and review of the tennis week that was. Now a little something on  the side;

"Wife of the Year" Wendy Ding did something most wives wouldn't. And the incident was recreated in easy to understand subtitles.

EDIT: Almost forgot, Caroline Wozniacki is dating or holding hands or doing something with Rory McIlroy. Maybe its the closet she will get to a major tournament, who knows. All I knows is I don't care, and who could? WE HAVE MARIA KIRILENKO'S WEDDING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT ANYWAY.

No wonder why the week was ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Cocaine user back on court? Hey can she pee on a cup again? Just to be on the safe side.

Who did the Armada defeat? A great army or a bunch pacifists with signs?

At least it is a trophy not an over-sized silver coaster or ash trey.

Jarmilla and Julia weren't playing tennis, that was ping pong.

Wicked serves and some sick cross court hitting from the Ostrich; with a side of squeal.

Nothing is going to top the Divapova's wedding... and Dementieva please go away for good.

The Fist Pumping Imbecile got to be the WTA's top ranked player, dated a golfer, now she is just an Imbecile. The Big Stuffed Bunny is walking a similar (slam less) path.

I thought the woman who cut her husband's penis and put in the garbage disposal was the news of the week.

I really like this recap action. Hopefully it'll become a regular feature!

IIRC, Hingis has to play WTA events for a period of time if she's going to partner in doubles with Fedex at the Olympics.

Almost forgot, Caroline Wozniacki is dating or holding hands or doing something with Rory McIlroy. Maybe its the closet she will get to a major tournament, who knows.

hahahahahaha

WE HAVE MARIA KIRILENKO'S WEDDING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT ANYWAY.

Sorry, Ms. Kirilenko might have a boyfriend but has no intention of upsetting her millions and millions of fans by getting married!

And now for your latest Mr. Oudin news:

Unseeded Chanel Simmonds of South Africa upsets 2009 U.S. Open quarterfinalist and top seed Melanie Oudin, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3, in the first round of the Lexington Challenger. "No one expected me to win, so I could play freely," Simmonds told the Lexington Herald Leader. "It's nice to play with no pressure."

Oudin, whose ranking has dropped to No. 100, decided to play the tournament in order to score some wins and get her confidence back up. "I'm not very happy, but I don't dwell on losses," she said. "Next tournament I go into, I'll be ready. This is a smaller tournament, and of course I wanted to win it. But what really matters are the Grand Slams."

I looked up this #247 Chanel Simmonds and she doesn't even have a photo on the WTA site!

Really bad loss for Mr. Oudin. This loss will put her out of the top 100 by next Monday. At least Mr. Oudin and her team can still BELIEVE that she can turn her career around.

Kim Clijsters tells TV station Fox 9 in New Jersey that she has been hitting for the past week and feels good. The three-time U.S. Open champion badly sprained her ankle in April while dancing at her cousin's wedding and missed almost two months of play. Then, after losing in the second round of Roland Garros, the world No. 2 re-injured her ankle at a tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch and hasn’t played since. She is scheduled to return at the tournament in San Diego, which begins on August 1.

Julia vs. Princess in the first round.. Winner to face Serena in the second assuming she gets past Rodionova.

Thanks Caps.

I see Licki Bean and Divapova in the same bracket. Licking my chops for a possible semis rematch.

Is it me, but I always find The Fist Pumping Imbecile gets easy draws.

I want to see how McHale will play.

Not sure but that's the same thing I said about Peer a while back.. I see she's playing in the Citi Open tournament seeded #1.

Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and world No. 2 Kim Clijsters have withdrawn from the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego, the tournament announced.

Clijsters said in a TV interview on Friday that her injured right ankle had healed and that she had been hitting for more than a week, but apparently she didn't feel like she had enough time to prepare for San Diego, which begin on August 1.

However, Clijsters messaged TENNIS.com on Twitter and said "Ankle is better but not completely healed."

The seventh-ranked Kvitova is suffering from a pulled abdominal muscle.

Both women are scheduled to play the tournament in Toronto the week after San Diego.

San Diego did add the strong German trio of Andrea Petkovic, Julia Goerges and Sabine Lisicki to its field, and still features No. 3 Vera Zvonareva, defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic.

I'm sold on Licki Bean and Julia G. not so much on disinterested Svetlana, a Dancing Buffoon, and a Fist Pumping Imbecile.

This means the Ostrich will miss the Cali Connection tourneys.
