Italy's Francesca Schiavone became the first player to wrap up a win under the Centre Court roof at the 2011 Championships when she finished off the challenge of Australia's Jelena Dokic 6-4 1-6 6-3 in a match briefly interrupted by rain.
While play was halted around the rest of the grounds, the two veteran players had the advantage of being able to enjoy a quick rest and then resume battle in a match which was perfectly poised at one-set-all and one-game-all.
Schiavone then took the lead at 2-1 and broke for 3-1. This was a golden chance for Schiavone to open up a clear gap but she lost her own serve immediately, double-faulting to go three break points down and then standing no chance against a service return winner down the line from Dokic.
However, a double-fault from 28-year-old Dokic - who originally made her name with a first round win against reigning champion Martina Hingis in 1999 - handed Schiavone a 5-3 lead and another opportunity to wrap up victory. She had to save four game points before doing so but eventually a wide forehand from Dokic handed the former French Open champion victory after two hours and five minutes on court.
Meanwhile Zvonareva, Vesina, Venus Williams, Date Krumm, Niculescu, Kuznetsova, Dulgheru, Tatishvili, Wickmayer, Errani, Parmentier, Pervak and McHale all posted wins before rain delays and light stoped play.

My hit and misses:
Hit: McHale because I'm biased, Date Krumm because is obvious, and Chris Evert back on T.V. because I always had a crush on her.
Misses: Venus's dress, Vera Z. three setter, Sorana first round loss (but she look stunning at the pre-player's party), and the rain.
When I saw Venus I said, "What the hell is she wearing?" Her outfit reminds me of the university of Kansas mascot Jayhawk:

I don't want to sound disrespectful but when I saw Venus's opponent I said, 'Who's the dude that Venus is going to play against?' Until I realized 'Oh is a she'. :/
I agree with your hits and misses Carlos, especially McHale, she showed fight and phsycal and mental tougness, to come back from 2-6 and to go to 8-6. Wont say much more, don't want to jinx her.
Her outfit would be good for casual ware or to go a party, but not tennis, especially not Wimbledon!
Honestly, I though the opponent was a man too! I saw her in doubles match once, I saw 'her' and her partner walk out, thought I got the wrong court and was watching mixed...untill the other team walked out. So you were not the only one!
I didn't like Venus' dress at all.
Haha, that DUDE threw me for a spin when I originally saw 'her' a while back.
IMO, McHale's win over Makarova was simply huge. Somehow I don't see Mr. Oudin pulling that off in a million years.
Looks like I'm getting short changed on the Julia match today. She's on court 15 which isn't being broadcast.
ESPN3 does have court 14,16,17,18. Some sorta conspiracy?
Caps321 I agree on your comment about Mr. Oudin.
Serena just won in three sets, she looked winded too me in the middle of third set. Was Mary Joe Fernandez who said Rezai is a quality top opponent for Serena? Boy do I disagree.
JJ lost in the first round as well as Bojana so the only Serb remaining is The Fist Pumping Imbecile. I don't see Mr. Oudin pulling a victory over the Imbecile but I'll be rooting for her because I don't have a choice = lesser of two evils.
Julia's match got canceled today.. So, later I saw this on twitter:

1st on at 12pm on court 5 tmrw...hope many will come to my court and support me;)would be great....good night tweeties...
Now, I don't suppose court 5 is on ESPN3 tomorrow, eh? Nope.
ESPN3 seems to be jumping around on courts and not sticking with the same ones two days in a row. So, would it be safe to say they don't think of Julia as a super star? SHAME ON THEM!
