As our ladies are getting ready for the 2011 Roland Garros final, to play for the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, why not take the opportunity to take a look back on the woman who was.
Well first things first, Lenglen was a great player of her time, winning 12 Grand Slam titles. Lenglen lost only one match in between 1919 and 1926, pretty impressive. She was a bit of a Venus Williams of her time, with her "outrageous" tennis outfits. She cried on court, she was the original drama queen.
Not only did she play tennis but she also ran, swam and did jump rope.
My favourite fun fact, Lenglen drank brandy from an "emergency kit" while playing. I think I'm going to start taking that page out of her book...
Called La Divine (the Divine one) by the french media, Lenglen died in 1938, aged just 39. Interesting fact Kimiko Date Krumm is still playing at 40.
Some highlight from a match between Lenglen and Helen Wills Moody from Cannes played in 1926. Lenglen won 6-3 8-6

Captain she didn't live to see forty! Go easy on the drinks. :P
Ill put that down to the fact of her living in the era she did, and take my chances :P
The TV commentators while watching the final last night said; "Lenglen was great for the sport, she made her matches and acrobatic performance crossed with ballet...and did it all drinking brandy at the change of ends" :P
I would love to see a tipsy Captain playing tennis. :P
FYI I once played basketball with my friends while being semi-drunk.
Hahaha, and how did that end up for you ;P
