Melanie Oudin only blames herself for recent struggles.

From tennis.com

Even though she is on a four-match losing streak and has seen her ranking drop to No. 111, American teenager Melanie Oudin says that she will make no changes to her team or ask anyone else for help. The 2009 U.S. Open quarterfinalist says that she striking the ball well in practice, but is focusing too much on the score in matches. On Tuesday at the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego, Elena Baltacha walloped her, 6-0 6-1, in less than an hour.

"I feel like it’s about my figuring it out and I can’t get down on myself every time I lose," she told TENNIS.com. "I don’t feel like it’s somebody else’s fault. Some players when they do well, they just blame the coach. But I'm smart enough to realize that it’s not the coach. It’s all on me."

Oudin has been coached by South African Brian de Villiers since she's been a junior. The Fed Cupper says that USTA Player Development has reached out to her, but she's not ready to accept a helping hand.

After Wimbledon, Oudin took a 10-day vacation the Bahamas with her twin sister Katherine and felt like she had cleared her head, but the results have not shown up yet.

"When I practice I’m relaxed and hitting freely," said Oudin, who will try and qualify for Toronto next week. "But in matches I have to forget about winning or losing, but that is way easier said that done. It’s mental.”

Aggie vs. McHale is coming up a little later! Too bad no video for me. Although ESPN3/ESPN2 seems to be starting coverage Friday.

Oh, and concerning Mr. Oudin...

When exactly do ya think it might be time for a change, Melanie? When you get to #150? #200?

Carlos said...

I used to call Mr. Oudin the little tiger with big paws. Now she is a little, toothless, clawless, tiger.

Caps321 when she reaches #250 then she will start to realize that she wasted time in her career and will begin to make changes. Note my sarcasm.

McHale got blasted by Aggie 6-1, 6-0. Americans are getting pummel in Carlsbad.

I think is worth to keep an eye on Aggie, she is showing another higher lever after acquiring a new coach. Did her sister also dump daddy as her coach?

The Fist Pumping Imbecile won her match yesterday to the delight of the Imbecilites.

Aggie said something about 'we'.. So, I guess they both share the same coach.

I know they share the same website!

Carlos said...

Thanks Caps.

I hope they don't share boyfriends. :P

Back to Mr.Oudin, the last time she had a quality win was in the first round, in Miami, against Julia Goerges.

Aggie beats Dani 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.

And I didn't see this one on video either.

Carlos said...

I had Peng and Licki Bean in the semifinals.

If I see an all Imbecile final I'm calling for a boycott. I'm sure the Imbecilites will rejoice.

Aggie better bring her top game as well as Vera Z.

After winning just nine points in the first set, Radwanska called for a WTA trainer. The right-handed Radwanska is suffering from a nerve issue in her right shoulder that causes some difficulty, especially with her serve.

After receiving treatment, Radwanska’s game improved considerably in the second set.

“After you lose 6-love, you really have nothing to lose,” she said. “So, I start to play more aggressive. In my mind, it was just to play, win some games. I just feel more relaxed.”

Radwanska said she considered pulling out after the first set because her shoulder was “sore.”

“But then I had some chances, so I said, ‘OK, a couple of more games,”’ Radwanska said.

She broke her Slovakian opponent in the 10th game, for the third time in the set, when she ripped a backhand winner on a second serve to take the second set.

The players, doubles partners who won at Miami this season, were on serve in the third set until they traded breaks to get to 4-all. After Radwanska held serve, she finished it off on her first match point when Hantuchova hit a backhand crosscourt shot wide.

Radwanska placed the odds of her being able to play in the semifinals at “50-50.”

Aggie is playing now but all I'm seeing is the Petko/Stephens match. Guess I'll give up for now.. Will try back again in about 45 minutes.

Anonymous said...

Aggie lost the first set 6-4 and is winning the second 3-0.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Petko just sprinted off the court and ran up the stairs out of site! I wonder if she has explosive diarrhea??

Aggie now winning 4-0 and up 40 love. Btw, Petko didn't even ask to leave the court or anything.

Now the ump says Petko will be receiving an off court medical timeout!

Aggie was up 4-0, 5-3 and finally won it 6-4! She had me worried there for a minute. Plus her shoulder is wrapped as well.

One Imbecile down the master to go.

This type of mini chokes are common in Aggie, she needs to improve in this area and learn how to close matches.

Was there any dancing from Petkovic after the match? Typical of her going deep into tournaments only to come up short. She needs to have those fur balls that are stuck on her throat surgically remove, they are causing her to choke.

So taking Pepto Bismol requires a medical time out?

I'm taking Vera in staight sets.

Carlos said...

The Fist Pumping Imbecile lost and everything is alright with world.

It took three sets for Vera Z. to take the match, like Aggie she had a mini choke. She was up 5-1 in the thrid when the Imbecile got on Vera's heel, cutting the score 5-4. Fortunately Vera won in a match that lasted two hours and twenty-two minutes. I didn't see the match, I was scoreboard watching.

Aggie has NO ROOM in her bag of tricks for choking. She gives 100% and often times that's not enough when playing the top players. However, she would sure win more than she does w/o giving the match away like she's done quite a few times. Perhaps this is a turning point for her?

Btw, according to ESPN3 the Vera/Imbecile match was on but I didn't watch it.

Aggie coming up at 5pm Eastern. Also, according to ESPN3, lots of Rogers Cup coverage starting tomorrow at 12pm Eastern.

That said, the Rogers Cup site has the men playing elsewhere but still calling it the Rogers Cup? Because I can tell ya ESPN prefers showing men over women so my earlier statement about coverage might be baseless!

Lucinda Perry said...

WOOO final live on Eurosport here! I think Aggie will win in 3.

Caps, as far as I am aware the Rogers Cup has always been in Toronto for women and Montreal for women... suppose it makes it easier to get through matches!

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Lucinda. I wasn't aware men and women play in different cities sometimes but its called the same tournament!

Watching on ESPN3 -- Aggie looks mighty aggressive already. Btw, did you catch the pre match interview? Did that lady say to Aggie, "So, you gave your dad the flake?" And held her thumb out like giving someone the boot? I didn't catch the last word. Anyway, Aggie skirted around that question in a hurry!

Lucinda Perry said...

I should have said Toronto for women and Montreal for men! It definitely is a unique situation.

I missed they pre match interviews, its only by chance I found the match at all! just happened to turn it over as the warm up finished!

Aggie takes the first set 6-3!

Aggie WINS 6-3, 6-4!! First title since 2008 and first win over Vera.

This has to be one of the best matches I've ever seen Aggie play. Vera's head will be spinning for several more hours after experiencing Aggie's full array of tricks!

Carlos said...

Congrats Aggie.

The match last night took a punch out of Vera.

I only saw the last three games, she played good defence waiting for Vera to make mistakes ala Bunny and yes she did go to her bag of tricks. She was wearing make-up but she sure looked cute.

TORONTO (AP)—Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup due to an illness.

Williams says she wasn’t feeling well so she went to see the doctor Sunday. She was diagnosed with a viral illness and says she is “extremely disappointed” she won’t be able to play in Toronto.

Qualifier Zhang Shuai steps into Williams’ first-round match Tuesday against Ana Ivanovic. Lourdes Dominguez Lino got the extra spot in the draw.

The strong Rogers Cup field still includes Williams’ sister, Serena, and Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters.

I see on streaming that Julia vs JJ will be on at 7pm Eastern. Still not sure what ESPN3 is going to offer.

Caps that was a good win for Julia I hope she gets momentum. JJ is a pretty good hard court player meaning this victory is a quality win for her.

Thanks for the article of Venus pulling out, not only The Fist Pumping Imbecile gets easy draws but when she gets tough opponents they pull out. Luck is on her side no doubt.

Captain and Clefairy either university courses have you both by the throat or you two are in a drinking binge; which ever the case new post are needed. :P

I don't think Julia will win but I hoping she gives Serena hell.

I was surprise that Pennetta defeated the Princess, considering how Pennetta has been playing.

Three retirements already.
